So, after getting more feedback, I'm trying to decide between 2 front covers. Here they are:
or
What are your opinions. I really would like every person who views this blog to vote on this one. Get your kids to look at it too. The more feedback the better.
I like the first one as well; the inclusion of the gold Words of Power emblem adds a needed visual element on both the front of the book and the spine label.
It also performs a pragmatic sales function as well by informing readers there will be more books in this series.
I agree - the kids in my library are always on the lookout for new series they can dive into, so the fact it is designated as a series is good. I also like the emblem...
Top one no question about it. The series symbol is cool. The wax paper thing across the cutout kind of gives the image of something hidden and secret inside. Like it's sealed in there. Like a seal they can break and find out the secrets to.
I'm outvoted, I see, but I like the second (bottom) one better. I prefer the balance of having the wax seal in the middle of the book. Is there any way to put the gold emblem at the bottom? Because I do agree that identifying it as the first in a series is vital.

Yes, I'd pick it up in a stack of ARC's. I won't pick up anything with a dead body or chalk outline on the cover.
The top one.
The top one. It looks more balanced, and it's definitely something that my kids would pick up.
I like the top one!

Yup - I was going to say the same thing everybody else has already said. The top one, for all those reasons.

Not meaning to complicate things...JMHO.
I like the top one, too... the 'Words of Power' medallion definately adds balance.

I like the first one. The second appears a tad plain -- the first says visually 'I am empowered'.
Amazing what a small symbol can do!
Thank you everyone for your feedback. I appreciate all of your responses.
